Rocketober Postponed 1 Week

Greetings Fliers, it is with heavy hearts that the BoD has decided to postpone Rocketober 1 week. There are two main reasons for this move:

  1. The flying weather is looking pretty awful: sustained heavy winds in the teens, gusting well over the TRA safety code’s shutdown speed of 20mph; plus heavy and low clouds in several of the times that had lower winds. (And one of the only promising windows of weather would be during a shutdown for the Air National Guard anyway.)
  2. We became aware of some new development within the cylinder Monday that could potentially limit our ceiling to ~16k.

I know this is not the solution some folks will want to hear, but just as there are fliers who would rather keep the schedule and sit at camp and socialize in the bad weather with chances to fly in the breaks, there are fliers who would rather postpone the launch a week where the forecast looks better than it does for this week, not only now, but also than it looked a week ago for this weekend. (We’ve been monitoring it for a week and a half or so now.)
